I was recently challenged with drawing this specific rally car flying through the air in South Africa, with snow topped mountains, exhaust dust and spectators in the background.
This is the one rally that this particular car didn’t take part in back in the 70’s, which is what makes this illustration so rare and so special. You won’t find any picture of this car flying through the air at this angle, at this location, anywhere!
The little details such as the suspension dropping, wheels turning in, through to the shadow underneath the car, all add so much action to this drawing which took hours to create.
I had the absolute honour of seeing this car in the flesh at the ExCel Centre in London in February 2018 where my drawing was for sale just around the corner.
The sheer madness of the design brief and my achievement of creating my illustrated poster is why I have chosen this to be the image for Drawn By Matt.
